Personnel security vetting

Structured vetting of people in security-sensitive roles

Personnel security vetting is the process of assessing whether a person is suitable to take part in security-sensitive activities. The assessment must show that the person is reliable from a security perspective, loyal to the interests being protected and otherwise suitable for the role.

Northseq supports employers through the full chain: from identifying which positions require vetting, through the interview, to documented material and a clear assessment the decision-maker can stand behind.

When is vetting required?

  • Before employment or assignment in security-sensitive operations
  • When placing someone in a security class under the Protective Security Act
  • On role changes or extended access rights
  • As recurring vetting during ongoing employment
  • Before supplier and consultant assignments with access to protected information

How it works

  1. 01

    Scoping

We map the organisation's protective values, the positions affected and the level the vetting should reach.

  2. 02

    Baseline review

Structured gathering and verification of identity, background, employment history and open sources.

  3. 03

    Security interview

A structured interview following a documented methodology covering reliability, loyalty, vulnerabilities and personal suitability.

  4. 04

    Assessment and documentation

We deliver documented material where verified facts, professional assessments and recommendations are kept clearly apart.

The Protective Security Act

Swedish protective security legislation requires anyone taking part in security-sensitive activities to be vetted, and the vetting to be documented. The responsibility rests with the operator and cannot be outsourced.

Our work is designed to support that responsibility. We carry out and document the vetting using a fixed methodology, while the decision always remains with the organisation.

Integrity and due process

Vetting touches sensitive information about individuals. We work with a clear mandate, consent where required, a documented method and limited distribution of the material.

The person being vetted should understand the process, know what is being asked and be treated consistently regardless of role.

What you get

  • Documented vetting material per individual
  • A structured security interview led by an experienced investigator
  • Clear separation of fact, assessment and recommendation
  • Support in building a repeatable internal process
  • Routines for recurring vetting and revoking access
